Grading Policy Performance standards for reading, language arts, mathematics, science and social studies have been established for all schools in Miami-Dade County. Reading standards indicate that if a student is not working on grade level; he/she must receive a grade of “D” or “F” in reading and will receive a comment of “Working Below Grade Level” on their report card. The Houghlin Mifflin Reading Program has two components: one being the grade level instruction program and the other the guieded reading component that addesses the students instruction. Mathematics, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies are taught according to the students’ grade level. Report card grades in these subjects are determined by finding the average grade of each student based on the student’s written class work and assessments in each subject. If the student’s average at the end of each semester is a D or F, that student will receive a comment of “Working Below Grade Level” on their report card. Grading Scale A = 90 - 100% B = 80 - 89% C = 70 - 79% D = 60 - 69% F = 0- 59% Riverside Elementary Community School Administrative Detention NoticeCorrecting My Behavior (CMB) Center To the parent(s)/guardian(s) of: __________________________ ID#_________________

Comentarios adicionales del maestro: Ways You Can Help Your Child At Home! Here is a list of things you can do to ensure your child’s success at school and throughout his or her life.
Helping Your Child Be a Better Reader Reading at home can be a positive experience for you and your child. All students benefit from extra reading activities. Take a look at these suggestions:
Reading together is fun! Help your child start reading more today! Reading Aloud With Your Child Reading to your child is a wonderful way to encourage a love of reading. It helps your child become a better reader. Look over these suggestions for how to make the most of reading to your child.
Start today to share the joy of reading with your child. Helping Your Child Learn Help your child practice memory skills that are essential to school success. Here are some fun-to-do memory activities that you can do together at home. See and Remember Put six objects on a tray. Let your child look at the tray. Then have your child look away while you remove the objects. Have your child tell you what objects were on the tray. As he or she mentions an object, place it back on the tray. As your child becomes skillful at this, increase the number of objects. Listen and Remember Clap your hands in a pattern (for example: three claps, pause, two claps). Have your child listen and clap the pattern. Read and Remember Help your child memorize easy poems and nursery rhymes. Remember the Parade! Place six common objects in a row for your child to observe. Then have your child look away while you rearrange the order of the objects. Then ask you child to put the things back in the original order. If six objects are too many, use fewer objects. As your child becomes skillful at this, use a greater number of objects in the “parade”. Help your child look, listen, and learn! Going Over Your Child’s Schoolwork Looking over your child’s schoolwork gives you an opportunity to find out about our classroom. I recommend looking at schoolwork with your child. It’s a nice way to spend some time together and to talk about school.
When home and school work together, the child benefits. Thank you for your help in making your child’s experiences in elementary school a positive one.
